Summary

Like I thought they would find that out in the book 🤷‍♀️🤔

Though I really enjoyed the escapism of this book, I would have to say that Francine Rivers makes some of her female characters a bit too saintly to identify with。 This young 18 year old is by far a bit too angelic--just a bit too perfect for me to relate to。 The more worldly characters drink wine and care about how they dress, while the main character drinks her hot chocolate and wears old jeans。 Hmmm。。。what message is that sending? The events in the end of the book (Leota in the hospital) are too far out to be believable。 I just shook my head and said, "Oh, you have got to be kidding me。"The writing is very good, the story is very good, and the solid message of hope is edifying。 。。。more

5 star ratings are rare for me, but I was just enveloped by this story。 No book of fiction is perfect, but this one is just outstanding。Francine Rivers。 If you've read anything by her, you understand。 If not, poor you! 5 star ratings are rare for me, but I was just enveloped by this story。 No book of fiction is perfect, but this one is just outstanding。Francine Rivers。 If you've read anything by her, you understand。 If not, poor you! 。。。more

I read this with a religious sister of mine after out mother's death。 It is typical Francine Rivers prose。。。direct, declarative, unpretentious, and very earnest。。。and a typical Francine Rivers story。。。redemption is her hallmark。I do not have the religious gene so it was uncomfortable for me to read that angle of the message。 I found reading the story itself very appealing, a kind of wish fulfillment-cum-wistful sadness that my own mother wasn't more like Leota at the end。If a parental loss is im I read this with a religious sister of mine after out mother's death。 It is typical Francine Rivers prose。。。direct, declarative, unpretentious, and very earnest。。。and a typical Francine Rivers story。。。redemption is her hallmark。I do not have the religious gene so it was uncomfortable for me to read that angle of the message。 I found reading the story itself very appealing, a kind of wish fulfillment-cum-wistful sadness that my own mother wasn't more like Leota at the end。If a parental loss is imminent or recent in your life, permaybehaps this book will give you a needed fellow feeling and/or catharsis from disappointment。 。。。more

“Everything important happens in the garden” Leotas garden has long been a favorite of mine, so when it went on sale for 5 bucks i grabbed it! I’ve read this many times, but it had been a few years。 I find a get something new out of it each time, and this time it was a strong desire to know my neighbors! Iykyk, and it’s a simple principe, but one i want to implement in my life。 🌹🌸🌺🌷🌻🌼—all the flowers and stars for Leota!

Hard to get into but once I did it was a pretty good story。 The random twist towards the end really annoyed me though!

Restoration This book details loss, discrimination, pride and secrets following World War II。 Restoration for many takes place in a reworked garden which blooms again with love and grace。

A Christian book about a girl who listens to God's calling and becomes an artist instead of going to college like her controlling, demanding mom wants。 She seeks out her grandmother and ends up getting close and even moving in with her to take care of her。 It's in Grandma Leota's Garden where the girl tries to reunite her family and invites the whole neighborhood as well。 A Christian book about a girl who listens to God's calling and becomes an artist instead of going to college like her controlling, demanding mom wants。 She seeks out her grandmother and ends up getting close and even moving in with her to take care of her。 It's in Grandma Leota's Garden where the girl tries to reunite her family and invites the whole neighborhood as well。 。。。more

The book is a five star book, but just like it's hard to be obedient to God, right now I cannot accept the message at the end!!The ending is realistic, and poignant and mirrors real life。 The ending is a message to trust God, his timing and his plan, even when you don't understand it。I get it, but today I'm not in that place。 As always, Francine delivers and she is so obviously anointed。 The book is a five star book, but just like it's hard to be obedient to God, right now I cannot accept the message at the end!!The ending is realistic, and poignant and mirrors real life。 The ending is a message to trust God, his timing and his plan, even when you don't understand it。I get it, but today I'm not in that place。 As always, Francine delivers and she is so obviously anointed。 。。。more

This engrossing tale of the three generations is a page-turner。。。all 425 pages! I read it at the recommendation of two reader friends。 It's the best book I've read this year for two reasons: the intriguing plot woven around a dysfunctional family and characters delineated so clearly I'd recognize them if I met them on the street。In the beginning, Leota's Garden was a place of beauty。 But by the time she was eighty-four, it was in ruins due the devastating war and her unreconcilable adult childre This engrossing tale of the three generations is a page-turner。。。all 425 pages! Wow。 I have so many conflicted feelings。 I loved a lot about this book。。。the place setting of the garden, the vividness and depth of most characters, the mostly redeeming storyline。。。。 But the twist at the end put a bad taste in my mouth。 I get that the author was trying to take a stand on an issue but it was jarring and not what I was looking for in a book like this。 There also were some plot holes and some parts felt like they needed an edit。

What another excellent book from Francine Rivers! You want a story that has the gospel message and lives changed due to that gospel, look no further。I absolutely loved the writing in this story。 All of the characters came to life for me as I listened to it。 As sweet as Annie is, her mother, Nora, is absolutely bitter and nasty。 You could just FEEL her anger seep through her words。 And poor, dear Annie - or Anne Lynn as her mother insisted on calling her - just wants to feel loved by her。 Whew, t What another excellent book from Francine Rivers! Never disappointed by Francine Rivers and this book was no exception。 It was filled with hard truths, grace of the Lord, wonderful humor and characters/circumstances one can find themselves identifying with。 Well worth the read!
